Safaricom Ethiopia launches first national consumer promotion to reward over 1 million customers

Safaricom Ethiopia has today launched its first national consumer promotion that will see over one million customers rewarded for joining and using products and services on the 07 network.

The 13-week Terek be Gursha promotion will award customers unique codes for buying a Safaricom SIM card or recharging their lines with airtime, buying packages or using WhatsApp bundles.

Each customer will receive a maximum of 10 unique codes per day that will enter them into a draw to win either daily, bi-weekly or monthly prize. One car every month for three months (three cars)

• One Bajaj every two weeks (seven Bajajs)

One motorbike every two weeks (seven motorbikes)

• Smartphones and tablets

• Bonus airtime

“Today’s event is really about saying thank you to our customers in our own small way through the launch of our first national consumer promotion. The Terek be Gursha promotion will award over one million customers over the next 13 weeks and they will be eligible to win prizes including 3 cars, 7 Bajajs, 7 motorbikes, phones, tablets and daily Safaricom airtime when they join the network, recharge their lines and buy packages. We are building a business with the customer at the heart of what we do and as we grow, we would like to recognize and award customers for walking this journey with us,” said Anwar Soussa, CEO, Safaricom Ethiopia.For every 10 Birr spent either on airtime top up, or buying Voice, SMS or Data packages, existing Safaricom customers across the country will receive 1 code.New customers who join the network by buying a SIM card and topping up within 24 hours will receive 3 codes and 7 codes will be awarded for those using the free 1GB WhatsApp package.The promotion which is also open to Safaricom’s enterprise customers, runs until July 4 th 2023 and will reward over one million customers throughout the 13-week period across regions in Ethiopia where the Safaricom network has been switched on.

To increase chances of winning, customers are encouraged to continue topping up their Safaricom lines or buying our affordable packages for Data, Voice or SMS.

There will be automated bi-weekly lottery draws in partnership with the National Lottery Authority to determine prize winning customers.

Winners of the cars, Bajajs, motorbikes and devices in the Terek be Gursha promotion will receive a call from a Safaricom Ethiopia representative using only the number 0700 700 700 with instructions on how to claim their prize, and winners will be awarded in their cities of residence at Safaricom shops.

For airtime prizes, customers will receive an SMS from Terek be Gursha and their accounts will be automatically recharged.

The national promotion intends to bring on board more customers and reward existing customers on the 07 network, through a chance to win prizes.

In the first phase of integration with partner banks, customers can now access the mobile airtime top-up service through USSD menus and Mobile Apps of Bank of Abyssinia, Awash Bank, and NIB International Bank.

“We are delighted to announce this new mobile airtime top-up service that directly addresses our customers’ needs by introducing a solution that fits into their digital lifestyle. This service will enable our customers to stay connected on Safaricom Ethiopia’s network and go about their daily engagements seamlessly, be it keeping in touch with family and friends or business, using our 4G Data, Voice, and SMS services. We are keen on engaging in more strategic partnerships within the financial and technology industries to further innovate and serve our customers’ needs. The 13-week Terek be Gursha promotion will award customers unique codes for buying a Safaricom SIM card or recharging their lines with airtime, buying packages or using WhatsApp bundles.

Each customer will receive a maximum of 10 unique codes per day that will enter them into a draw to win either daily, bi-weekly or monthly prizes.

The prizes include:

• One car every month for three months (three cars)

• One Bajaj every two weeks (seven Bajajs)

• One motorbike every two weeks (seven motorbikes)

• Smartphones and tablets

• Bonus airtime

Safaricom Ethiopia launches first national consumer promotion to reward over 1 million customers

Addis Ababa, 5 April 2023

Safaricom Ethiopia has today launched its first national consumer promotion that will see over one million customers rewarded for joining and using products and services on the 07 network.

The 13-week Terek be Gursha promotion will award customers unique codes for buying a Safaricom SIM card or recharging their lines with airtime, buying packages or using WhatsApp bundles.

Each customer will receive a maximum of 10 unique codes per day that will enter them into a draw to win either daily, bi-weekly or monthly prizes.

The prizes include:

  • One car every month for three months (three cars)
  • One Bajaj every two weeks (seven Bajajs)
  • One motorbike every two weeks (seven motorbikes)
  • Smartphones and tablets
  • Bonus airtime

“Today’s event is really about saying thank you to our customers in our own small way through the launch of our first national consumer promotion. The Terek be Gursha promotion will award over one million customers over the next 13 weeks and they will be eligible to win prizes including 3 cars, 7 Bajajs, 7 motorbikes, phones, tablets and daily Safaricom airtime when they join the network, recharge their lines and buy packages. The promotion which is also open to Safaricom’s enterprise customers, runs until July 4 th 2023 and will reward over one million customers throughout the 13-week period across regions in Ethiopia where the Safaricom network has been switched on.

To increase chances of winning, customers are encouraged to continue topping up their Safaricom lines or buying our affordable packages for Data, Voice or SMS.

There will be automated bi-weekly lottery draws in partnership with the National Lottery Authority to determine prize winning customers.

Job Requirement

Degree in Telecommunication Engineering/Electrical & Electronics engineering/Computer Science/IT.

3 years’ experience a busy telecommunication/ IT environment or Software Engineering with good knowledge in planning for RAFM Solutions, either in Revenue Assurance or Fraud Management.

Working knowledge in Unix systems and Databases – Oracle, MySQL.

Expertise in various analytics tools such and Python, Standard Query languages, Procedural Programming languages, Linux/Unix, scripting,

Domain experience in GSM and IT is a must.

Broad technical expertise combined with business acumen and strong consulting skills.

Excellent systems analytical and communication (written and verbal) skills along with meeting facilitation skills.

Excellent communication skills – must be able to listen to customers, document requirements quickly & accurately, and review written materials for accuracy. Must also be able to communicate specifications to persons at all technical levels.

Proven track record for delivery of large scale, complex projects delivering IT/Telco customer solutions; demonstrable leadership skills and organizational experience.

Ability to communicate and influence others.

Ability to drive initiatives without any formal authority in an ambiguous and startup environment.

7.Segment Lead – MASS Segment

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for segment Revenue and P&L

Responsible for segment brand metrics

Deliver End to End plan of the Mass Segments and Customer Life Cycle (revenue, ageing, control decline, reduce churn) aligned to the overall Segment P&L

Analyze customer insights, usage patterns, competition activities, and market scenario to draw insights into customer usage /recharge behavior to design segment propositions to optimize revenue and profitability.

Develop the commercial case and secure commercial approvals for the segment

Collaborate with Sales, Customer care, Product & Services, Finance, Technology key stakeholders to align the Mass Segment unit goals

Project manage the plan till delivery by working with Virtual Business teams and the Joint Delivery Teams

Prepare and update all documents for all propositions within the Mass Segment

Present Mass Segment commercial performance in monthly reviews (Customers, Revenues, Share, NPS, ARPU, Smartphones, Data Usage)

Responsible for the development of an annual/bi-annual/segment strategy

Work with the brand team to develop a Segment Media, Sponsorship and experiential strategy

Consolidate the marketing research and data on these segments- identifying key insights and business opportunities

Work closely with other stakeholders to define a clear and precise Go To Market strategy and channel engagement including visibility requirements

Coordinate the reporting of the GTM initiatives end- to – end

Conduct follow-up, measurement reporting against set KPI’s

Manage Segment OpenX Budget

Qualifications 

Upper second class degree in Business or Commerce from a recognized University

5 years working experience in Telecom or FMCG with exposure to Segment Marketing

High-level knowledge of Commercial knowledge.

High level knowledge of MS Office applications.

8. Specialist: Data Engineer (Big Data)

Job Requirements 

BS or MS degree in Computer Science (or related fields like Electronic Engineering, Physics or Mathematics).

3+ years of software design, development, implementation & deployment experience with backend data services.

4+ years of hands-on experience in any object-oriented programming & scripting languages such as C++, C#, Java, or Python.

Hands on experience in private cloud (docker/ kubernetes-K8s) computing.

Knowledge of data structures and algorithms and algorithm

Advanced working SQL/NoSQL knowledge and experience working with relational/nonrelational databases.

Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.

Experience in performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.

Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.

Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.

A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.

Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.

Strong project management and organizational skills.

Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Nifi etc.

Experience with relational SQL (Oracle & PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (HDFS Hive, HBase, Cassandra) databases.

Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools like Airflow, etc.
